NAMBC elects three new members to Board of Directors 

Three new members of the NAMBC Board of Directors were elected at our 21st Annual General Meeting in Washington , DC , April 27-28. The Nominating Committee noted the retirement from the board of John Gruetzner (Intercedent), Cartan Sumner ( Peabody ) and Keith Marshall (Oyu Tolgoi LLC) with thanks for their distinguished service. All other officers and directors were reelected.

T. Layton Croft is Vice President of International Government Relations – Asia of Peabody Energy, based in Singapore . Previously, he was Vice President of External Affairs and Corporate Citizenship for SouthGobi Resources, based in Hong Kong, where oversaw investor and public relations; government affairs, and corporate social responsibility. Prior to that, Layton spent five years as Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Social Responsibility for Ivanhoe Mines Mongolia. In this role, he had also had responsibility for communications and stakeholder engagement for the Oyu Tolgoi project.

Layton earlier worked for The Asia Foundation. A US native, Layton has lived and worked internationally for over17 years in corporate and public-sector roles in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe . He holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master of Arts from the School for International Training in Brattleboro , VT.

David Paterson is Vice President for Regional Development and Communication of Oyu Tolgoi LLC. An Australian native, David has been with Rio Tinto for 24 years. He started his career working for a predecessor of Rio Tinto, Conzinc Riotinto Australia ( CRA ), as a Graduate Mineral Economist. Since then he has worked for a broad range of Rio Tinto businesses globally, holding positions in operations, exploration, shipping, and at Rio Tinto's headquarters in London . Most recently, David spent six years in Darwin as a General Manager in one of Rio Tinto's uranium businesses, Energy Resources of Australia.

In July 2010 he moved to Mongolia to become Rio Tinto's Country Director. In January 2011, David's role expanded to include also serving as Vice President at Oyu Tolgoi LLC. He graduated from Monash University with an Economics degree and earned his MBA from the University of Melbourne . David lives in Mongolia with his family; wife Veronique and his two sons and a daughter.

Tobin S. Robbins is a Vancouver-based partner in the Business Law group of Heenan Blaikie LLP, one of Canada 's largest national law firms. He serves as Honorary Consul of Mongolia for British Columbia and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Consular Corps of the province. Tobin serves as a business advisor to numerous companies and organizations, predominantly in the transportation and advertising sectors. His experience also encompasses advertising law, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory as well as public law and government relations and procurement.

Tobin is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Law Society of British Columbia, Transportation Lawyers Association (US) and is a past president of the Canadian Transport Lawyers' Association. He is peer-rated as a pre-eminent transportation law expert in both L'expert/American Lawyer's Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and in the 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada (Woodward/White).
