First-ever Mongolian candidate accepted to West Point

B. Saruul is first  Mongolian ever to be accepted to the US Military Academy at West Point and will be entering the Corps of Cadets in the class of 2016.  He  was one of 15 international candidates to be accepted to West Point this year and will report for training on June 27, 2012. Upon successful completion of his four years at the academy, Saruul will return to Mongolia to serve as a 2nd lieutenant in the Mongolian Armed Forces. On June 19, US Ambassador Jonathan Addleton presented Saruul with his West Point acceptance certificate and a welcome letter from the Superintendent of West Point, Lt.. General David Hinton.  West Point received 15,170 applications for the Class of 2016, two-thirds more than the 9,931 who applied in 2008 for the Class of 2012 that graduated in May. Of those who applied this year, 1,184 were accepted for admission. That number always gets reduced during the four-year course of training, which leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in one of 40 academic majors: there were 972 graduates in the Class of 2012.
