MIAT Airlines, Mongolia’s national carrier, has signed long term leases for two new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with delivery expected in late 2019 and early 2020. US Ambassador Jennifer Galt and Scott Grimsby, Boeing Asia Sales Director and a member of the NAMBC board of directors, participated in the signing ceremony in Ulaanbaatar with MIAT CEO Tamir Tumurbaatar in late March. The lease was finalized by Air Lease Corporation on April 18. These brand-new Boeing planes continue MIAT’s commitment to an all-Boeing fleet as the airline continues to expand their route network in East Asia. Last year, MIAT executives announced they were exploring the possibility in future of flights to North America.
“These two new 737 MAX 8 aircraft will help serve our mission to connect Mongolia with the rest of the world while increasing the quality, reliability and efficiency of our fleet operations,” said MIAT CEO Tamir Tumurbaatar. MIAT now connects Ulaanbaatar to 10 international destinations, and offers domestic service between Ulaanbaatar and Khanbogd in the south Gobi. Air Lease Corporation is a Los Angeles-based international aircraft leasing company principally engaged in purchasing commercial aircraft and leasing them to its airline customers worldwide through customized aircraft leasing and financing solutions.
